Songs of the Ancient Forest

Deep in Montana’s Yaak Valley, an ancient 315-year-old spruce falls in the forest—a landscape now threatened by logging. From this fallen giant, artisans craft the Black Ram Guitar, a singular instrument that carries the soul of the forest in its tone.

Filmed by RA Beattie of Off the Grid Studios and featuring narration by Jeff Bridges, with appearances by Rick Bass and a collective of musicians, artists, and conservationists, the film follows the guitar’s extraordinary journey—from its creation by master luthiers to its return to the wild places that inspired it.

Through music, art, and storytelling, Songs of the Ancient Forest illuminates the urgent need to protect our old-growth forests. At its core, it is a story of preservation, passion, and the timeless bond between nature and human creativity. More than a film, it is a call to action—a reminder that forests, like music, are irreplaceable.
